YuCat — Privacy Policy

YuCat (the “app”) is a mobile application that helps cat owners evaluate cat-food products. You can photograph a product to identify it, search for products, create profiles for your cats, and receive a product assessment tailored to each cat. This policy explains what personal data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights over that data.

1. Who we are

The data controller is Adam Ayuda, an individual operator. You can contact us at yucat.app@gmail.com.

2. Data we collect

The app does not ask you to register with a name, email address or phone number. You are signed in anonymously, so we cannot personally identify you from the app. The data associated with your anonymous account is:

Cat profiles: the details you enter about your cat — name, age, weight, gender, breed, coat type, activity level, neutered/pregnancy status, health conditions, and an optional profile photo.
Product scans: photographs of cat-food packaging that you take or select in order to identify and assess a product.
Saved products: products you bookmark, stored on your device.
Anonymous account identifier: a random identifier created on first launch to store your cats and history.
Diagnostic and usage data: non-identifying device and app information (model, OS version, app version) and in-app events used to understand how the app is used and to fix bugs.

The app does not collect your location, contacts, calendar, browsing history, or advertising identifiers.

3. How we use the data

To identify a product from the photo you provide and produce a nutritional assessment.
To store your cats’ profiles and tailor each product assessment to a specific cat.
To provide product and brand search.
To manage your subscription.
To understand how the app is used and to diagnose crashes and fix bugs.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use personal data for advertising.

4. Service providers we share data with

The app uses third-party processors who act on our instructions:

Google LLC (Firebase Anonymous Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions and Firebase Analytics) — stores your anonymous account, cat profiles, product-scan images and scan logs, and processes anonymous usage analytics on our behalf.
Anthropic, PBC (large-language-model API) — receives the product photo you submit, together with web search, in order to identify and analyse the product. We do not send your cat’s profile or health information to this service — only the product image and text about the product.
Algolia (search infrastructure) — powers product and brand search and a product cache. It receives product names and search queries, not personal data.
RevenueCat, Inc. and Apple Inc. — manage and validate your in-app subscription. Payment is handled by Apple through your App Store account; we never receive your payment-card details.
Mixpanel, Inc. (product analytics) — receives anonymous in-app usage events that mirror our Firebase analytics.

5. Legal basis

Where data-protection law applies, we process personal data on the basis of: performance of a contract (providing the app to you), consent (for example, when you enter your cat’s details or submit a photo), and our legitimate interest in operating, improving and securing the service.

6. Retention

Your cats’ profiles and scan history are kept for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your data, we will delete or anonymise it within 30 days, except where we are required to keep it longer to comply with a legal obligation.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because your account is anonymous, please email us from the device or include enough detail for us to locate your data. To exercise any of these rights, email yucat.app@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children

YuCat is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The app is intended for adult cat owners.

9. Security

Data is transmitted over TLS. Your data is stored in Google’s managed Firebase infrastructure with access controls so that your anonymous account can only reach its own data. Subscription credentials are handled by Apple and RevenueCat and are never stored by us.

10. International transfers

Our processors (Google, Anthropic, Algolia, RevenueCat, Apple, Mixpanel) may process data in regions outside your country, including the United States and the European Union. Each provider operates under its own data-protection terms and standard contractual clauses.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at this URL, with the effective date at the top.
